Dear Esteemed San Luis Obispo City Council Members,
Very soon you will be selecting an interim Mayor, and possibly an interim City Council Member.
I encourage you to select Erica Stewart as Mayor because she is the most qualified of the applicants and is a
person who has already deftly demonstrated her abilities on council.
I would like to draw your attention to two council seat applicants that are particularly exceptional.
Emily Francis is one of the most determined and intelligent people I know. She is a passionate historian, both
local and global, and can skillfully evaluate an issue from a historical perspective and within the context of the
local community, and then thoughtfully and compassionately form an opinion or plan. I frequently turn to her to
understand what’s beyond the face value of propositions and upcoming legislature acts. Further, in all of the
communities she has lived she has consistently participated in acts of community service and supported the
political process. Emily would bring to SLO City Council a strong analytical and compassionate mind and a
breadth of knowledge about city governance in other communities.
Michelle Shoresman is a trusted and familiar face in the SLO community and is an accomplished political
activist. Michelle is intelligent, measured, and respected. She has local political and legislative experience that
will enable her to jump quickly into the role of city council member and she has professional experience that
should facilitate managing city business. Michelle is consistent, intelligent, and capable, and would bring to
SLO City Council strong professional and personal experience as a longtime SLO resident.
Both of these women have shown in their past that they care greatly about their community and have given
energy and passion to make SLO City better. Emily Francis or Michelle Shoresman would be a remarkable
compliment to our SLO City Council.
Respectfully,
Laura Slaughter, RN
San Luis Obispo resident
