Hello,
I wanted to comment regarding the location and creation of potential bicycle pump tracks in San Luis Obispo.
First, I feel very strongly that pump tracks are best utilized by children. There will be adults there (such as myself), but
the main reason we will be there is for the children. I have two kids, currently ages 2 and 4, and we make the trip out to
Morro Bay about twice a month on average to ride the pump track there. Most of the people riding there are school
children. Because of this, I think it is very important to locate any potential pump track close to schools, so that it is
easily accessible for children. The two best potential locations at this time seem to be Laguna Lake and Sinsheimer park.
Both of these locations have on site parking and bathroom facilities, and plenty of space for the creation of a track. In
addition, they are close to residential neighborhoods and are close to schools. I feel that Laguna Lake has the better
potential of the two spots, with more than enough parking and space, and is close to both CL Smith Elementary and
Laguna Middle School.
Second, I would love to be a part of the creation of any track, regardless where it is located. I have lived in the area for
19 years and have been riding bikes for over 30 years now. I have built many trails and pump tracks on private property,
and often head out to Morro Bay to ride the bike park there. Being able to help create another asset in town to promote
cycling would be amazing.
Thank you for your time,
AJ Smith
