Dear City Council Members
I would like to submit my letter of recommendation for Mila Vujovich-LaBarre to serve as
a member of our City Council.
I became acquainted with Mila soon after moving to San Luis Obispo and enrolled our
boys in Laguna Middle School and SLO High School.
As a school teacher, Mila demonstrates an incredible enthusiastic ability to
communicate to students and adults, and has a vibrant, energetic yet compassionate
nature to handle even the most difficult situations. Mila didn’t just teach her subject, but
brought in a number of community issues that got the students involved.
Mila invited me over the years to talk with her students about the issue of polystyrene
and plastics in her classrooms. Of course, we have always been thrilled that SLO City
was the first in the County to lead off with our Polystyrene Ordinance to address the
problem of foam foodware.
I also serve on the Sierra Club Executive Committee, of which Mila is also a Board
Member. Mila brings a robust energy to our meetings, often knows about the history of
the issues we are working on as a Chapter, and presents well-thought out and excellent
ideas. I know that, with her experience as a teacher, she has this extra special gift to
“think on her feet”.
I anticipate a new energy with Mila to join your Council and help work on the issues
SLO City faces.
Sincerely,
Janine Rands
