Subject:Re: Wastewater Treatment Area - Non-Starter for Bike Skills Area

Dear PRC Members,
As the most recent former chair of the Active Transportation Committee, I urge you to only consider dirt bike
jump/pump track facilities that are located along the RailRoad Safety Trail and the Laguna Lake area. There is a lot of
room for this type of facility in these areas as they are parallel to safe routes to Laguna Middle School, Sinsheimer School
as well as the High School for the Laguna Lake area kids. The Active Transportation Committee (after hearing from the
public on this issue) gave direct feedback towards the parks and rec master plan that stated the above locations as ideal
spots for promoting healthy lifestyle choices as well as the most environmentally acceptable locations. I have been to
numerous cities that have bicycle skills facilities located where kids are already riding and they receive a massive amount
of use (Google Sedona Bike Academy, which is located at the entrance of the school). The suggestion to put a facility out
by the sewer treatment plant should be a non-starter for many reasons. There is no safe way for kids to ride their bikes
to that part of town. The fact that a car ride would be required to use a bike skills facility should give us all pause as we
work towards our 2030 climate action action goals. As a parent that has been helping kids ride to and from both Pacheco
Elementary and now Laguna Middle School, I can assure you that most kids do not have the physical ability to ride their
bikes more than a few miles at a time. Again, putting a bike facility next to the sewer treatment plant should not be
considered. Attempting to activate this area of the city by tempting kids with a facility that is long overdue is in poor
taste as kids should never be used in this way.
Thank you,
