Re: Support of Item 7a of your 10/19/2021 agenda: Open Space Winter
Evening Hours of Use at Cerro San Luis Natural Reserve
Date: 10/15/2021
Dear Council Members:
My wife and I thank you for taking the time to consider the issue of evening hiking in San Luis’ open space. As longtime
SLO residents, we have enjoyed the privilege of hiking Cerro San Luis in the evenings after work for more than a
decade. We fully concur with the Negative Declaration and feel that extending hiking hours to 8:30 during the winter
months along a narrow strip of land with developed trails will have little impact on the local animal populations while
having a large positive effect on the human population.
We very fervently support extending the access hours year round to 8:30 or one hour past sundown, whichever is later.
This would eliminate cumbersome administrative oversight that shifting time limits and any type of permitting would
impose on the city. With the Negative Declaration, changing the ordinance should not be problematic.
Few issues before the city have large upsides with very little downside, but this is the rare exception.
Sincerely,
Marc Couacaud and Karin Trub
