Dear City Council Members,
I am reaching out as a former employee of NHC (2018-2019) in regards to the revocation of the SLO Cannabis Permit. In
my opinion the city is right to revoke the NHC permit on the basis of criminal activity. During my period of employment I
witnessed a business that was run without transparency, without regard for employee wellness or benefits, and in light
of the criminal activity of the previous owner I don't believe NHC should be given a highly competitive permit for a brick
and mortar store in SLO.
The intentionally withheld criminal conduct alone should preclude this company from having a cannabis permit, but I
also wanted to state that my experience working for this company (and that of some of my coworkers) was a negative
one. While Dayspring may have transferred ownership, it seems as if he transferred it to Val Garcia, who had been in a
serious relationship with Dayspring for some years before and during my time of employment. I do not know their
current situation, but personally I do not feel that Helios Dayspring is fully divested from the company when his
romantic partner is the current owner.
The number of cannabis permits issued by SLO are so few in number that I think those who do receive permits should be
companies that are above reproach; companies whose operations support local workers and the environment in
meaningful ways that SLO can be proud of. I did not witness NHC live up to these standards during my time working
with them. I hope the city council remains firm in revoking NHC's cannabis permit.
In Peace, Love and Cooperation,
Briana Peterson
