Dear Members of the Tree Committee,
My husband and I are Kathy and Jim Weiss and we live at 974 Vista del Collados, in SLO. We applied for a tree removal
of a 37 year old Alder in our front yard. The root system has ruined our irrigation system and the root system reaches all
the way across our yard to our driveway. The Arborist denied our application to remove the tree. However, we were told
we could appeal by October 24, and I hand carried our appeal and payment in to the City Clerk’s office on October 19.
We also submitted a rendering of the remodel plan of our front yard, which will include all new hardscape, landscape,
and a hardscape walkway from the sidewalk to the front porch. The landscape Contractor will have to cut through the
Alder’s tree roots throughout the yard in order to excavate our yard for the work to be done. We are sure it will kill the
tree at the point and we’d like to appeal the denial, and remove the tree at this point. We plan to replace the tree with
a Bloodgood Japanese Maple.
Is it possible to be on the agenda for the meeting on October 25? That is the reason we hand carried our appeal
paperwork and payment to the City Clerk’s office on October 19.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kathy and Jim Weiss
