Planning Commission members,
I'm Jamie Woolf. One of the main reasons I purchased my home near Sinsheimer Park was to have easy access to the
Railroad Safety Trail, which I use on an almost daily basis to walk or bike into town. My wife uses it to walk to her studio
on Sacramento St.
I am delighted to see that extension of the trail to Tiburon Way is anticipated in the proposed project. However, I have
some concerns about the details. Those issues were explained in detail in written comments from Lea Brooks, so I will
only summarize them here.
-- I was alarmed by language in the agreement that would allow the trail to be constricted to just 8 feet in places if there
are problems obtaining the necessary right of way from the railroad. This is simply too narrow for what is envisioned as
a critical bicycle/walking route.
-- The two-year deadline for obtaining those rights of way from the railroad is unrealistic. I served on the then-Bicycle
Advisory Board for six years -- two as chair -- and know how challenging it is working with the railroad.
-- I was troubled by the language suggesting the Public Works director could declare this project "infeasible" if right-of-
way problems persist. This does not reflect the importance of this link to achieving the city's stated goal of significantly
increasing the share of non-motorized transportation.
Thanks for your attention,
Jamie Woolf
