Regarding Item 3A on tonight’s ARC agenda…
We are neighbors on Palomar Avenue who are interested in the planning of the new development at The Villages
Residential Care Facility, 55 Broad Street, in our neighborhood. There are several points that we would like to make.
As residents, we would like to see as many mature trees as possible preserved, as well as provisions made for cleaning
and maintaining the creek that runs between the two proposed buildings A & B. This is an important wildlife corridor in
our part of SLO.
We request that consideration be given to our neighbors, Lydia and Bob Mourenza’s proposal to move the 4th story on
the proposed building B to the proposed building A at the interior of The Villages property. This would provide a better
balance of building heights relative to The Palms existing main building and the proposed building B along side of
Palomar Avenue. Building B at 4 stories in height puts a visual barrier up between our residential Palomar - Luneta
neighborhood and the adjacent student - senior neighbors.
We are in favor of The Villages expansion on the under utilized parking lots; providing our community with much needed
future living options for our elder citizens is a big positive for SLO.
Please carefully consider the aesthetic impacts for the surrounding residential neighborhood when making decisions on
this project at The Villages.
Sincerely,
Tess and Dan Matthews
