I am writing in regards to agenda item 3A, “Public Safety Center Program and Design Update”. As a resident of SLO
country, it has been extremely disappointing to have seen the ways in which the SLO city council has continued to
disregard community members. Instead y’all have preferred to propose we spend $50 million on a new police station
when community members and organizations have voiced that we need low income affordable housing, transportation,
and money for schools, not police. We have seen how the carceral system and the police are a detriment to keeping
communities actually safe and how the safest communities are those that exist without policing. I urge each one of you
on the city council to do your jobs, finds other ways to take care of the city that do not include and expansion of the
police. To pay true tribute to equality, diversity, and inclusion of Black, Indigenous, and people of color is to care for our
needs. We are telling you that as a community we can find better ways to care for our community. Do not continue to
ignore our voices.
