Dear City of San Luis Obispo City Council
I'm an almost 70-year-old resident of Chumash Village Senior Citizens Mobile Home Park. I was a long-distance runner
who now gets most of his cardiovascular training via hiking in the South Hills Open Space within the City of San Luis
Obispo. I have also hiked during the day at Cerro San Luis (CSL..) Particularly in light of the stresses of COVID-19, I view
this almost-daily activity as critical to my physical and psychological well-being. According to my Fitbit, my cumulative
climb since January, 2020 was 42.29 miles as of October 17, 2021.
As a Ph.D. radiation biophysicist, I strongly endorse the FONSI determinations that have been made in studies to
date. As an amateur astronomer, I also appreciate efforts to maintain a dark night sky in San Luis Obispo. Currently, I
must travel to Shell Creek Road off Highway 58 to enjoy a dark night sky.
I plan to participate in the CSL Early Evening Program once it is implemented.
Sincerely, Gene Nelson, Ph.D. Email: c0030180@airmail.net Cell: (805) 363 - 4697
