Mayor Stewart and City Council Members:
I’m writing on the subject of: OpenSpace Winter Hours Evening Hours of Use at Cerro San Luis Natural
Reserve
It is important to understand the impact of night hiking and biking in areas of wildlife habitat and that those
activities in a wildlife habitat are not compatible. Nocturnal animals will be negatively impacted by the lights
and sounds of human activity, whether on foot or on a bike. Additionally, fast moving bikes pose a threat of
injury, or death to a startled animal and injuries to bike riders may occur while striking an animal, or swerving
to miss one.
It's because of disruption to the natural activities to animals and the real possibility of injuries to humans, that
I'm asking the City Council to not allow night hiking or biking on Cerro San Luis Natural Reserve.
Thank you for your time,
Mona Olivas Tucker
