November 16, 2021 Dear Council Members: The Board of Directors of Downtown SLO would like to thank you for the opportunity to provide input while you review the recommendation for establishing free parking on specific days in the City's parking structures during the Holiday Season (item 5.I.) Downtown SLO exists to foster an economically vibrant Downtown. Our focus is to draw people into Downtown San Luis Obispo to shop and dine. The Downtown SLO Board of Directors unanimously supports the adoption of item 5.I. During the Holiday Season, providing the gift of free parking encourages patrons to support businesses Downtown. By offering free parking on high-impact dates, folks may spend more time Downtown than they would otherwise. Additionally, free parking incentivizes people to visit Downtown when they otherwise would have shopped elsewhere. Overall, this provides a feel-good, accessible experience for patrons of Downtown San Luis Obispo. Revenue earned during the Holiday Season is precious to many business owners in our community; adopting this resolution supports them. Offering free parking is a significant incentive that drives foot traffic Downtown, which leads to more dollars spent locally. The impact of keeping dollars local contributes to a thriving Downtown and City of San Luis Obispo. We are excited to be bringing many fun and festive decorations and activities to Downtown, including large lighted displays and photo opportunities, all wrapped up in a bright Holiday Plaza. We believe that these parking incentives will also encourage people to come Downtown to see these activations. We would also like to take this moment to thank you for your support of these programs. Your Downtown business owners, employees, and patrons thank you for your consideration.
