Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Active Transportation Committee, I live in a neighborhood adjacent to Foothill Boulevard and am writing to express my support for 1) placing the Foothill corridor near the top of the Tier 1 project lists for long-term safety improvements that include protected bike lanes and 2) using any available funds for low-cost and quick-build projects to enhance safety infrastructure ASAP along the Foothill corridor - as opposed to using short-term or surplus funds for a lengthy study. We urgently need protected bike lanes along Foothill due to a recent history of fatalities and serious injuries, and due to heavy usage by community members including neighborhood residents, Bishop's Peak and Pacheco students, SLO High students, and Cal Poly/Cuesta students, faculty, and staff. My son bikes to the high school with a small group of friends, and they have encountered enough near-misses that it is clear to me how important protected bike lanes are. Some car drivers simply do not look out for bicyclists, and it only takes one careless driver to cause severe injury to a bicyclist. Protected bike lanes are critical for protecting bicyclists and encouraging bicycling among our younger residents. Thank you for your consideration, Marilyn Tseng 1
