Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. ________________________________ Honorable Mayor Stewart and Council Members: I echo the sentiments expressed by Mrs. Rowley, Mr. Cooper, Mrs. Aryal, Mr. Schmidt and Mr. Jones. There is urgent need for our City to address the implications of SB9, in the spirit of other jurisdictions who aim to protect their residential and historic neighborhoods , Density has its limits as it has not only aesthetic impacts, but also crime, traffic, health and safety ( rodents and pandemic transmissions ) and stress on resources, not to forget the tree canopy and wildlife. It further can affect the actual rentability of existing units in terms of affordability. We have an ADU in our neighborhood that was granted exemption from creek setback to 11 feet only, below the City standard. That ADU enables the homeowner to rent his primary home to students while he benefits from the income, rather than helping to ease the affordable housing crisis. The basis of RHNA is meant to ensure more affordable housing for California´s workforce. There is every danger that SLO ADUs might rather become more student housing, encouraging more off-campus living quarters, and thereby encouraging Cal Poly to increase its student population, rather than capping itr in proportion to the City´s permanent population and its size/infrastructure.resources. We hope that the City's commitment to preserving SLO from abuses permitted by SB9 ( e.g. developers profiting ) will be demonstrated by your reiterating SLO´s policies before 1st January. As Mr. Schmidt stressed in his correspondence to you, failure to pass an emergency ordinance by the deadline is yielding up our own standards to Sacramento. If there are assurances that there is no such urgency, why are other proud cities making certain to pass their emergency ordinances? While the timeline is ever shrinking, a specially scheduled meeting is not outside the means or will power of our City Staff. It is within your power to direct them thus. The effort will reap permanent benefits and flexibility for SLO as we continue to grow with respect to our individual standards while meeting the demands of CA housing and climate change Respectfully, Genevieve Czech, 612 Stanford Drive, SLO 1
