Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello, I’m following up on a previous email my wife and I sent regarding Todd Miller’s home at 1953 Chorro Street. Last night, my wife forwarded that email to the Council (below) and I’m writing now to share some additional thoughts. We consider the subject garage a benefit to the neighborhood’s historic aesthetic, and undoubtedly an upgrade to the visual impacts from the abutting apartments and the vacant home next door. The Council should also consider that the garage’s visual impact to the public (other than abutting neighbors) is essentially limited to a short distance along High Street, and the garage is not a prominent feature from that viewpoint. We urge the Council to visit the neighborhood and assess the garage’s visual impact in-person. We appreciate your interest in preserving the neighborhood’s aesthetic and hope you will remain unbiased by previous decisions when considering the appeal. Thank you, Gresh Eckrich and Adriana Neal From: Adriana Neal < Date: January 10, 2022 at 8:54:31 PM PST To: emailcouncil@slocity.org Subject: 1953 Chorro Street To Whom it May Concern, We live at 1969 Chorro Street, two houses down from Todd Miller at 1953 Chorro Street, who's garage structure is under review by the City. We're writing to inform you that we take no exception to the structure. Our backyard has a direct view of the structure and we do not consider it a negative impact on the neighborhood aesthetic. We find the structure to be charming in a retro way that we feel suits our neighborhood. Todd Miller's house is one of the most well maintained historic homes in our neighborhood - one of the few that gives the neighborhood any kind of charm - and we feel the garage structure does not take away from the character of his home. We're sad to say we question the City's presumed goal of maintaining historic aesthetic in the neighborhood. Both the backyard at 1953 Chorro and our backyard abut a very large and unsightly apartment building that is completely out of character with the historic neighborhood charm we understand the City is hoping to preserve. The rest of the neighborhood is a mix of building types, both old and new, including a number of poorly maintained multi-unit rentals and adjacent commercial and industrial uses that diminish the neighborhood culture. It also seems the City has allowed the house between our house (1969 Chorro) and 1953 Chorro to remain vacant and barely maintained since we purchased our home 12 years ago in 2009. 1 We urge you to approve the garage structure at 1953 Chorro. Thank you, Adriana Neal 2
