Hello SLO City Council, I am writing here briefly to express my support for removing the natural gas compliance pathway as part of the City's Clean Energy Choice Program. My family rents a home near downtown built in the 1940's. Though our landlord is tentatively open to replacing our natural gas water heater, oven, and clothes drier, our least efficient appliance - the furnace - will likely never be upgraded until it fails entirely. I share these details to point out that today's new gas infrastructure is likely 2050's put- off upgrade. It is best to commit now to an all-electric future and allow it to become the norm. We will spend many years more replacing all existing natural gas infrastructure and appliances citywide. Let's not add more to-do's for future homeowners, landlords, and Councils.
