Dear Mayor Stewart and Honorable City Council Members Pease, Christianson, Marx, and Shoresman:
I write to encourage you to approve SLO REP’s challenge-grant request. SLO REP’s two-site
project will not only enrich the cultural vibrancy of our community but will also help many
worthy nonprofits find the space we need.
We know a new state-of-the-art theater would draw more people downtown and generate a
significant economic impact that will help local businesses.
It’s also encouraging to us that SLO REP’s mission-vision is about much more than simply
staging a play. SLO REP seeks “to connect people in ways that open the mind, nourish the soul
and illuminate our shared humanity,” and SLO REP has committed to specific steps it will take
to support diversity, equity and inclusion.
SLO REP’s overall project – with two sites – would benefit nonprofit organizations in very
practical ways. For example, we know that SLO REP is committed to offering organizations
access to classrooms and performance spaces in a safe, welcoming environment at very low
cost. That’s just what we need.
I encourage you to approve SLO REP’s challenge grant request, for the benefit of so many.
Thank you,
Courtney
