Given the inevitable delays and added costs caused by the pandemic, investing in benefits that will accrue for a century is a wonderful opportunity to provide a powerful one-time community morale and economic boost. My earliest recollection of the City of SLO goes back forty years when a college buddy from Santa Barbara called it “a happening place.” That’s what I love about SLO Rep. It is “happening” professional, quality entertainment, but friendly and interactive. One of the things that new residents tell me they miss most is the cultural events of big cities. The wonderful new center will enhance San Luis Obispo's unique cultural flavor, adding significant social and economic value for just one percent of the City’s 2022 capital budget. I am so impressed with the dedication and generous investment of the community in gifting private-sector funds of over three-quarters of the cost to construct the theater complex that will, in turn, be turned over to the City as a public asset. Countywide, we are grateful to have San Luis Obispo as our cultural "happening” hub. Please invest in our cultural and economic future by supporting SLO Rep’s grant request. Gratefully, Debbie Peterson Former Mayor Grover Beach 1
