Dear SLO City Council Members:
As a SLO City business owner who has long been impressed by SLO REP’s organizational competence, I urge you
to approve SLO REP’s request for a nearly $4 million challenge grant.
For the city, this grant is a rare opportunity to make a relatively low-risk small investment with an almost certain high-
value return, one that also perfectly fits the city’s stated vision and strategy.
As I understand it, the City won’t pay out dollar one until SLO REP raises at least $10 million. At that point, completion of
a new theater would seem highly likely, and the City is simply closing the deal to own an asset paid mostly by private
funds. Thus, low risk.
The strategic value of a new theater is real, according to your own policy statements as embedded in your Major City
Goals and in the Downtown Concept Plan.
Please, don’t hesitate. Approve SLO REP’s challenge grant.
