Honorable City Council Members:
Approving SLO REP’s grant request would be wise. Good strategy for any organization hinges on four simple questions:
What do we need?
What do we have?
What do we value?
What do we actually do?
SLO REP’s project answers the first three questions nicely.
What do we need? The city has said for years it wants a more vibrant cultural scene, and helping the arts is a stated part
of the council’s major city goals.
What do we have? Thanks to good management, some money available now to put toward projects that will provide a
long-term community benefit. And, in SLO REP, the city has a private-sector partner willing to put a majority of the costs
to create an asset the city will own.
What do we value? Your major goals say you want to help the arts, and the downtown concept plan envisions a new
theater as an anchor of a long-envisioned cultural district.
What do we actually do? Depends on your vote.
I hope you agree, SLO REP’s grant request makes a lot of strategic sense.
