Dear Council Members,
I’m Diane Blakeslee Brocato, a long-time resident of San Luis Obispo. For the past 60 years I have been committed to
supporting the Arts throughout our City and County.
As an example, in 1970, I made the first successful monetary request for San Luis Obispo Country’s support of our SLO
Symphony. Some of you may recall my late husband, DR. Earle Blakeslee was its conductor. As you can see, the County’s
generous support to our Symphony has aided its growth and success.
Now I’m back again asking for help but, this time for our REP THEATER.
Many talented men and women gave up their big city lives and paychecks to settle for psychic income gleaned from
giving to and living in our beautiful San Luis Obispo. Our City owes these talented performers the highest quality facility
possible. To accomplish this, the Board of the REP has secured commitments totaling 5 ½ million dollars To stay ahead of
inflation they want to start building their new theater facility now. However, they still need an additional 4 million
dollars to finish what will become a state-of-the-art theater.
As you know, building this facility will provide numerous jobs for our local contractors. As word gets out, it will serve to
attract more tourists and theater lovers from outside our city limits. This means more business for our hotels,
restaurants, and lots more shoppers for our San Luis Obispo merchants. In return, you’ll get more taxes to help meet the
City’s ongoing budgets.
Please grant the REP’s request for $3.94 million dollars.
Thank you,
Diane Blakeslee Brocato
