Dear San Luis Obispo City Council:
Hello from Ping and Su Tsao, residents of the City of San Luis Obispo since 1980. We are writing to strongly
urge each of you on the City Council to vote to approve SLO REP’s challenge grant request.
The Arts are one of the important elements essential to the exceptionally good quality of life that makes SLO
so special. Other elements are Environment, Health, Education, Diversity, and aiding the Disadvantaged. We
believe that investing time and funds locally in these areas leads to a more healthy, civil, diverse, and
prosperous community for all.
Throughout our family’s time in the community, we, our parents, our children and grandchildren have worked
for, volunteered with, and donated to many organizations that help make life here so full. Those entities
include Performing Arts Center SLO, Mozart/Mozaic Festival, SLO Symphony; SLO Botanical Garden, California
Rare Fruit Growers, Land Conservancy/Octagon Barn; French Hospital Community Board, Sierra Vista
Hospital/Pink Ladies; SLO Railroad Museum, San Luis Coastal Education Foundation; 40 Prado and Women’s
Shelter/Stand Strong.
SLO REP is one of our favorite local institutions. Its new theater project will touch multiple aspects of
community betterment - performance art, education, diversity, and the urban landscape.
Now is a crucial time for the City Council to move decisively to help fund this project. Years ago, the Council
partnered with Foundation for PAC and Cal Poly. The economic benefits alone have been well documented.
We again encourage you to approve SLO REP’s challenge grant request.
