Subject:Please approve SLO Rep's challenge grant request

Dear City Council:
I am emailing you today to support SLO REP’s challenge grant request.
As planned out this far, SLO REP’s project would have large returns with its new theatre providing more shows
with even more diversity, and would meet the long held and continued goals of San Luis Obispo in maintaining and
increasing downtown's vibrancy in supporting the arts as well as youth, regardless of income status.
I have young children that I hope will be able to benefit from the future expansion of the Academy of Creative Theatre
(ACT) with this grant. The extra funds will allow SLO REP to triple its number of participants within two years and will
undoubtedly provide an enriching experience to all those involved. I tried last month to enroll my oldest child in
summer ACT classes/camps, but there is already a waiting list through June!
I myself am a young healthcare professional in SLO and value a vibrant downtown with exposure to arts and cultural
experiences. SLO REP has been a place where I can spend a night out on the town with either my husband for a date
night, or my girlfriends for some much needed bonding time, and truthfully, the shows we have seen together have
sparked conversations and feelings that bring us closer together as friends, partners and a community as theatre tends
to illuminate topics on our shared humanity.
I urge you to please approve SLO REP’s challenge grant for all the reasons above and more! The time is now! Thank you
so much for your consideration.
Lindsay Karaelias, San Luis Obispo Resident
