Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. ________________________________ Honorable Mayor Stewart and Members of the Council: Residents of the Foothill area remain very concerned about the subject of traffic safety in our area. While the City has improved the safety of Foothill/Ferrini, there remains the sensitive area of Foothill/Chorro/Broad with the current construction chaos, and future impact of the vehicles of the residents of 790 Foothill joining the traffic flow on Foothill precisely opposite the Broad/Foothill intersection. The vulnerability of the site was tragically demonstrated in a student cyclist being killed there. You will have received correspondence from Odile Aryal who has stated the case with serious concern. Her point is that while promoting cycling, there must be corresponding effort and budget to promote its safety. The further question of Highland/Highway 1 has been addressed by us, and we are assured that the City will work with the County to ensure better signage/signal to warn motorists of the nature of that intersection at an earlier point along Highway 1 coming from the north. While the City built a handsome Mission-style welcome to our city on the verge at that point, there has been no change in the approach to that intersection since Finnegan´s death. The flow of student pedestrians/joggers/cyclists/cmotorists at that intersection to and from the campus, and the city traffic is constant. One death is one too many, and we ask the City to set aside part of their budget to improve the matter. There is a similar flow at the Foothill/Chorro/Broad juncture, and it is a well known accident site. We hope you can assure us that these concerns are also your concerns, and that efforts will be made to address them soon before another tragic loss of life. Thank you, Genevieve Czech 1
