Dear Mayor and City Council members,
It was my pleasure to serve city government in California for over 42 years, and to serve
the City of San Luis Obispo as the City Administrative Officer (now City Manager) from
1987 thru the year 2000.
Thinking back over a long career, it is only rarely that a city is called upon to make a
critical decision that impacts the lives of its citizens and the long-term well-being of the
city.
Tonight we are at such a moment.
It was in the late 80s when the City made the decision to join with two partners to create
the Performing Arts Center. It was both a courageous and a prudent decision on the
part of the City Council, one that has led to cultural, economic and reputation
advantages to the city, and personal growth and enjoyment opportunities for our citizens
and visitors.
Again, tonight we are at a similar moment in our citys history.
Please add your voice of support to the request of the SLO REP Board of Directors and
its Steering Committee.
Looking back a generation from now your actions will be viewed as a courageous and
prudent decision.
Yours truly,
John Dunn
