HomeMy WebLinkAbout2/28/2022 Item 2, Hoover Memo To: Kyle Bell, Anthony Whipple From: Chris Hoover Date: February 25, 2022 Re: Tree Committee Agenda Report Î 3490 Empresa Drive There are two existing London Plane trees for which Staff requested the Tree Committee to provide feedback regarding potential preservation. I would like to address each of these two trees and discuss some of the challenges and concerns with potential preservation. Tree #148 As noted in the arboristÓs report, this London Plane tree is located in an exceptionally small planter that is directly over the fire water supply mainline for the existing building. The arborist recommends removal of this tree even without the proposed project, as it is out of room for roots and has the potential of breaking the main fire water line. The tree also has a severe lean and has begun to crack the adjacent concrete curbs. The tree leans over an existing drive isle and would be directly over the proposed building. We believe this Page 1 of 5 tree to be a safety concern both in its existing condition as well as the future planned building for occupants and their vehicles. The photos below illustrate our specific concerns. Tree #148 leans over drive aisle. Fire water main line connection @ street runs directly under tree. This tree has a severe lean over the public right of way and sits directly where all of the public utility lines will enter the proposed building. The tree is very close to a concrete curb which it has already lifted and cracked. We believe these problems will worsen if the tree is not removed. The photos below illustrate our specific concerns.
