Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello, Thank you for bringing this crosswalk the attention it so desperately needs. My son started at Sinsheimer in Fall 2021. We live on the uphill side of Sydney and we try to walk/bike to school at least two-three times a week. The current pedestrian crosswalk at Johnson/Sydney is completely ignored by most drivers even though pedestrians are waiting to cross the street. Cars are driving 45 miles through the crosswalk at times. I have seen this to a dangerous extent multiple times and unfortunately, having had it happen personally as well. My 6 year old son has been in the crosswalk twice when cars have sped through. I do not feel safe crossing the street here with my children and rarely even by myself. I would like to be able to cross the street to Sinsheimer school, park, or the SLO swim center without feeling like I would be safer if I just drove the block. I know many people in the neighborhood feel this way as well. Thank you for hearing comments on the prior design. I appreciate the new design taking into account the visibility and accounting for the potential for “dual threat” collisions. This threat has happened to us multiple times and why we try to make sure absolutely no one is coming when we cross. More neighborhoods are being constructed off Orcutt and with them, the traffic on Johnson is going to be seeing an increase as well. I hope that with planned phases of 2023 that a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon will be deemed to meet the minimum threshold for the crosswalk at Johnson/Sydney, but I am happy to see the current planned phase 1 and look forward to its installment. Thank you for hearing my comments. Best, Bond Allen 1668 Sydney St., SLO, CA 93401 1
