Re: NO to the Proposed Solid Waste Rate Increase
We absolutely protest the amount of the proposed increase in solid waste collection and its
single assessment. The full impact of the projected TOTAL increase to the citizens of San Luis
Obispo is obscured. The real increase is the 26.63% identified PLUS the IWMA fee of up to 5.4%.
The total fee increase of 32% in a single year is unreasonable and does not account for the real
impact it imposes on the rate payers, AND doesn't include the added impact of the additional
"regularly scheduled rate increases" anticipated. This is not the only utility cost residents have.
Service cost issues like this that are taken in isolation, fail to acknowledge the aggregate
financial impacts the citizens of San Luis Obispo have endured over the past two years. It is
myopic and insensitive to the rate payers.
Amortize any increase to recognize the on-going financial consequences of the pandemic and
current inflation onset.
