Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Hello, can you please add my comments/concerns to be heard at the upcoming ATC meeting scheduled for tomorrow 3/17/2022. I note that a RRFB beacon system is being discussed to be installed at the South and King Street intersection in San Luis Obispo, California. As a long-term resident of that particular neighborhood, and when considering the speed, volume and type of vehicle traffic on South Street, I feel that a pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) or an actual four way traffic signal would be a safer option for that specific location. Given the speed of traffic traveling down South Street (97th percentile travels at 44 MPH per City of SLO Spot Speed Study 2019), and when considering that this road is used frequently as a delivery route for large cargo vehicles, I believe that a RRFB beacon system crossing is not adequate to safely and consistently control moving traffic and protect the citizens of our community. In addition, having a safe place to cross at mid block (South/King) would likely lessen some traffic conditions at the very busy South and Broad Street intersection. Having a safer, more substantial traffic control device such as a pedestrian hybrid beacon or an actual four-way traffic signal at the South and King Street Intersection will allow for more of the community to safely access Meadow Park and further encourage people to use alternate means of transportation.
