Subject:Safety concerns for Hawthorne Elementary School Students Crossing South Street
from King Street
This message is from an External Source. Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond.
I understand that the issue of installing safety protections on South Street for those crossing from King Street heading to
Hawthorne Elementary is finally being considered. I have been walking my 11 year old Grandson on that path since he
started Kindergarten when he was 5 and I am now also walking his 7 year old brother. I wear a orange and yellow safety
vest but I am still anxious every day. A few drivers are considerate and will stop and let us cross. However the vast
majority never stop and let us cross nor even slow down. The posted speed limit is 35 MPH, but the majority of the drivers
are going over that. A formalize walk way with stop lights is vastly needed. Please, do not let a tragedy occur before
action is taken to improve the safety for these children and others that use that crosswalk.
Thank you - Tony R. Hoffman , 2348 Sendero St., SLO
