To Whom It May Concern, My name is Jake Minnick, and my wife and I live on Sydney Street approximately 250 feet from the Johnson Avenue and Sydney Street intersection. We use this intersection regularly by vehicle, bike, or on foot. Since we purchased our home in 2019 we have personally responded to two vehicular collisions at this intersection, one of which was a vehicular rollover. If you live in this area, you know that traffic regularly travels at 45 MPH in both directions on Johnson Avenue. Reduced visibility resulting from low fencing and steep gradients at the stop signs on both sides of Sydney Street at this intersection complicate traversing up to four lanes of speeding traffic. The combination of reduced visibility and high speeds make this residential intersection particularly dangerous to use in most directions by vehicle, and in all directions by bike or on foot. There is considerable pedestrian traffic on Sydney Street, much of which is unaccompanied school-aged children walking or riding their bikes to and from school. It is difficult to navigate crossing this intersection as an adult, and it is particularly concerning to see children navigating this intersection by themselves with the current design. The proposed phase 1 design will certainly help slow down traffic and make this a safer crossing for all users and modes of transportation. Could we take this one step further by studying the conversion to a four-way stop intersection similar to the intersection of Laurel Lane and Augusta Street? In summary, we are in full support of all reduced traffic calming measures available for Johnson Avenue and Sydney Street, including the previously proposed removal of the westbound left-turn lane from Johnson Avenue to Syndey Street, the proposed phase 1 striping changes on Johnson Avenue, phase 2 lane reduction on Johnson Avenue, and phase 3 installation of a pedestrian hybrid beacon. Additionally, we support the conversion of this intersection to a four-way stop if the traffic data will support it. Let's work together to make this a safe intersection for all. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Jake Minnick 1
