Re: Expansion of the existing Villages of San Luis Obispo — Applicant Westpac Communities
55 Broad Street (ARCH -0386-2020, USE -0387-2020, PDEV-0001-2021, EID-0528-2021
Two new buildings are planned to this existing property. There presently are two Independent
Living buildings — 55 & 61 Broad St. and one Assisted Living (73 Broad St.) The two Independent
Living buildings are for active residents.
Adding two more buildings will definitely impact the area that is presently surrounded by
student apartments and housing in addition to the ongoing construction of apartments on
Foothill & Broad. Parking has always been a premium in San Luis Obispo and will be
compounded here at the Villages. Many residents still drive and even though there is a planned
automated parking structure we were informed by Mr. Pat Smith (Westpac) that it will be used
by employees only, thereby taking away valuable parking space for residents, guests, Villages
buses and vans.
The construction industry is still reeling from the pandemic with delays getting materials,
employees, etc. It may take years, as the Foothill project to complete, causing noise,
atmospheric impurities and stress to all the nearby residents.
New senior living may be needed but this site is not the place. Give us breathing room, a less
congested area and cleaner environment.
