Thank you for this opportunity to comment on the proposed rate increase. This protest is not a protest that there is a rate increase But I am protesting the amount of the increase The Basis of the Proposed Rate Increase is based on the increased cost of capitol improvements, increased operating expenses, increased wages, insurance premiums and AB 939 fees. The last justification is 5.3 percent for the increase in the Consumer Price index or basically the increase cost of living and doing business. The justification is doubling actual increased costs by listing the individual overhead increases and then adding the CPI on top of it. The CPI is the increase in cost of doing business or running a household. By asking for a 17.75 percent the waste management company is being reimbursed for the increase cost of doing business and inflating their profit margin at the expense of the residence of SLO. I agree an increase is justified and the CPI is slightly higher now since this letter was written but a doubled increase out of greed is not justified. I believe an increase in the range of 7- 8% is justifiable for the actual CPI and the overall CPI increase covers all aspects of the business from increase in wages, insurance and operating costs. As residents we don't have the choice of taking our business elsewhere if we don't like the cost. You as mayor and council members mandate that we use this one company that controls our garbage pick-up. There fees are most likely based on picking up a full can of garbage, recycle and green waste every week. We know that no one fills up their cans or even puts all three cans out every week. As elected officials looking out for the citizens of SLO I urge you to protect our hard-earned dollars and only allow a cost increase equal to the CPI. Thank you, Renter at San Luis Obispo
