Greetings Human Resource Commissioners, Thank you for taking the time to read our public comment regarding item #2 on tonight's Human Resource Commission Agenda (5/4/2022). The San Luis Obispo Child Development Resource Center has served San Luis Obispo County's most vulnerable families for 51 years. Our entire team shares a commitment to a common goal: improving the lives of all children and families by providing preventative child abuse services and early education programs. CDRC is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization focused on making San Luis Obispo County a better place by ensuring the children and families we serve are successful and flourishing in life. Our mission is to provide therapeutic early childhood education and mental health programs that focus on protecting children through our commitment to heal, support, and strengthen families within San Luis Obispo County. From a therapy perspective, we know that strong families are resilient families. CDRC works in partnership with families by involving them as the most important people in their children’s lives and basing the program on their needs. Core components of our services to families include therapeutic interventions and family support. This wrap-around approach has been key in helping break the cycle of unrest many of our families were facing. Overall, we provide a special place for children and families to be successful at work, at school, at home, in the community, and in life. This past year CDRC offered specialized services to 219 SLO County residents. We provided therapeutic early education to 96 children and family strengthening services to 123 parents. Our therapy team provided 52 children and 68 parents with individual, and/or family therapy to support families with success in school, work, parenting, and community integration. In addition to our full-day education and therapy programs, CDRC also provides a healthy breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack for students daily. These meals are designed to provide eighty percent of each child’s daily nutritional needs and help reduce hunger in San Luis Obispo County. On average CDRC proves 37,000 meals for our students annually. On behalf of the SLO Child Development Resource Center, I would like to express my great appreciation for your recommendation to reinvest in our Early Childhood Development and Therapeutic Mental Health Program. With continued support from the City of San Luis Obispo and various funding sources I know we will make a tremendous impact on stamping out child abuse in our community. Sincerely, -- Michelle Holm, Chief Executive Officer 1 SLO Child Development Resource Center 1720 Bishop Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Phone (805) 544-0801 x 01 ; F ax (805) 544-2611 Email michelle@childrensresource.org 2
