Dear Commissioners,
It appears the City Council’s ‘quick build’ directive for an enclosed dog park, as they approved the Master Plan Update, is
moving towards the bottom of the 'to do' pile. In speaking with Mr. Avakian at the beginning of the year, the Parks and
Recreation Department was ready to move forward to get bids on a couple of fence designs at Laguna Lake Park with
the intent to build shortly after the current June survey was completed (assuming costs were within the budgeted
amount). Sufficient funding has been identified to complete the perimeter fencing. Having such a fence would at least
keep the dogs contained and safe within a defined area. Internal fencing could come later and provide more benefits.
However, nothing has happened on this front since our conversation at the beginning of the year, and there is nothing
planned in the foreseeable future to get this project back on track. We have now been told there are staffing issues that
are delaying further efforts to get this relatively simple improvement from moving forward. We ask your Commission to
direct staff to move the City Council’s quick build directive to make its way back towards the top of the P&R
improvement pile. Thank you.
