Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear Council members, I have watched your approval of higher and higher structures in the historic downtown core area to my dismay and many of my friends. You have allowed parking to become a nightmare allowing new hotels to take over surface parking lots. You have not forced the developers to provide parking in the area to replace those parking spaces lost the way most cities do. Why shouldn't they be helping to pay the cost for the additional parking needed instead of residents who already pay a ridiculous amount in property taxes? Why weren't they forced to provide parking spaces in their parking lots to help with those lost to their building? Now you want us to pay an outrageous amount to come downtown, spend our money in the shops, eat at the restaurants. All of which line the city's coffers in taxes collected on our purchases. I do believe you think we are all multi-millionaires. You all may be but not most of the rest of your citizens. Luckily we have other options for shopping and dining in other local cities. I know many of us will simply stop coming into San Luis Obispo to do those activities. I know we already have curtailed our visits to downtown because of the difficulty of parking and the current cost. Wake up and realize you will be missing all those taxes that our purchases provide for your budget. Maybe you're satisfied that the college students and visitors will pick up that slack. I rather doubt it, but I can assure you that the retail stores will feel the lack of local customers. Adele Coyle 1
