Hello,
I’m writing in regards to the proposed increase in downtown parking rates. My husband and I are lifelong locals, born
and raised in SLO. We now have two young children and we park in the structure at Palm and Morro every time we visit
the library. If the free hour of parking goes away, every single trip to the library will now cost us $4. We will no longer be
able to afford spontaneous trips to the library, and unfortunately will not be able to participate in many of the
wonderful free activities they offer. Of course there is still the option to park farther away and walk to the library, but
have you ever tried to lug a bag full of books with two young kids in tow? It’s not something many people would choose
to do on a regular basis.
In talking about the proposed rate increases, my husband also mentioned that ordering online and getting free shipping
will now be more affordable than parking downtown to shop. It’s a sad reality that I wish weren’t so. I grew up a few
blocks from downtown, and it is sad to watch it slip farther and farther away from the grasp of the locals who actually
live and work here.
Regards,
Ashley Ernstrom
