Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. ________________________________ I am a San Luis Obispo homeowner. I wish to respond to the article I saw in the SLO Tribune about the city wishing to make up lost parking revenue from the pandemic. Eliminating the first free hour in parking structures and doubling the rates are disincentives to visiting downtown and spending money there. I believe your priorities are wrong. Walking down Higuera St between Santa Rosa and Nipomo Streets for example, there are many commercial vacancies. Why can’t these vacancies be occupied with new businesses that create jobs, generate tax revenue, and make downtown more appealing? Why isn’t that a larger priority? It seems like you are too focused on a single number in the budget, parking revenue, rather than the overall problem of the appeal and financial well-being of downtown. It’s like if you have empty apartments in a building and you decide to raise, rather than lower, the rent. You need to look at the big picture. I am aware that you have revenue targets, maintenance costs, and expansion plans. But the people in charge ought to think about these problems in a larger context. I am disappointed. I am not opposed to increasing fines for parking violations. Brett 1
