Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Members of the SLO City Council: Raising parking rates downtown seems like a good way to kill off many of the businesses that have survived the pandemic closures. San Luis Obispo has had a thriving downtown for years but moves like this one will discourage people from shopping downtown. Already having to pay into the evening on streets that are near empty, instills a bad feeling at the start of my downtown visits. In addition, I find the newish method of paying for some of the parking spots by having to go to a machine somewhere on the street to be awkward and uncomfortable. The parking rates downtown are already high. Who is going to be able to afford to park their car downtown if you double the rates? You got it, the 1% who can already afford everything. There must be a better, more inclusive way to raise the money needed by the City—a way that doesn’t hurt downtown businesses or lower income households. Sincerely, Marta Peluso . . . . . . . . . . . . Marta Peluso 557 Stoneridge Drive San Luis Obispo, California 93401 1
