Subject:parking rate increase for downtown SLO

Dear city council;
Please consider the following before raising parking rate as proposed.
Supply and demand will dictate a reduction of parking that will offset much of the added revenue you anticipate.
The local businesses will have less customers that will shop and eat downtown. Already strapped by increased cost to do
business and reduced profits, more establishments may close, reducing tax revenues for the city.
The unique aspect and appeal of our downtown will be out of the reach of many visitors.
Thou there may have been reduced income from parking because of the pandemic, this increase will penalize our local
residents that bear no responsibility for the current situation.
I would suggest a modest increase would be wiser, more reasonable, and acceptable to most everyone, say 10%.
In conclusion I don’t think the construction of a new parking structure justifies the raising parking rates by 100% which will
have the negative effects listed above.
Thank You,
Larry Rustigian
