Honorable Mayor and Council members,
I feel lucky to live in San Luis Obispo county and have a great fondness for our downtown.
I support the increase in parking rates.
Of course I don't like paying them, but I do like what SLO stands to gain. Our downtown needs an Arts/Cultural district
worthy of San Luis Obispo.
More reasons for locals and people from further away to come to downtown SLO means thriving businesses and a more
diverse community, and will be a source of pride for the city. If we want to fill our hotels and support the many local
businesses, we need more visitors and activity downtown.
The city's new bike-friendly improvements are inviting for alternative transportation. If an additional $6 to park (for an
entire day!) in a garage will encourage their use, perhaps that's a silver lining.
Downtown vitality comes at a price, and though it may be unpleasant in the short term, this measure seems entirely
reasonable for the future of a vibrant SLO.
Thank you for your service to the community.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Newman
