Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Honorable Council Members: As an enthusiastic supporter of the Cultural Arts District plans and the building of a garage that is sorely needed in that area of downtown to alleviate on street parking, I am writing to express support for the proposed parking rate increases and urge you to approve this item. Certainly no one likes increased parking rates, but the increase is phased in and will compare to Santa Barbara or Monterey Bay or Carmel once implemented and, more importantly, the garage will finally be built, which downtown businesses have been asking for over 20 years. Let's be realistic here... the City has to make up for 2 years of lost revenue when parking rates were suspended during COVID and our downtown is starting to become vibrant and alive again. We need to build this garage, and since the parking increases are phased in, the impact will be minimal to most visitors and will greatly benefit our local downtown business, enhance the visitor experience, and keep downtown SLO the unique and special place it is. As a 23 year resident of the City, I agree with the Council's goal to assist the retention of existing businesses, the recovery of arts and culture, and the vitality of the downtown, and urge you to approve this parking rate increase. Sincerely, Mike Mesker 1
