Hi City Council,
First of all thank you so much for everything you do for the city. It is a lot of time and care and we appreciate you taking
care of SLO.
I wanted to voice my support to raise parking rates for downtown. On the one hand I have mixed feelings about
knowingly raising costs for services I and my family use often, but on the other hand I’ve been thinking about the big
picture and the health of our downtown. I realized this is one way I can directly support the arts, through the programs
and buildings these funds will enable, and I consider it an investment.
If for some reason it becomes a burden on residents or otherwise problematic, the rates can be rolled back to the
current levels, but I think this may be a good step for now to support downtown moving forward.
I also hope the rate increase will encourage patrons to use more eco-friendly solutions, like biking and public transit. I
absolutely love that SLO supports infrastructure to encourage walking and biking, it’s so much better for health and
community well-being. It’s so accessible that my family has decided to buy an e-bike instead of a second car, because we
know we can access town easily with a smaller footprint.
