Hello, City Council.
My wife and I support the proposed parking rate increases as necessary to ensure timely
construction of the Arts District parking structure.
This garage will benefit businesses and their customers; help establish a thriving arts district that
is attractive to residents and visitors alike, and parking rates can be an incentive to increase usage
of other modes of transportation– buses, bikes, and even walking.
Many businesses at that end of downtown have been waiting for this garage for more than 20
years. More delay only increases the costs in dollars and lost opportunities.
All thriving downtowns have vibrant arts districts. A bona fide arts district is essential to SLO
downtown’s viability.
Failure to build the garage on its current timeline will be a game-changing setback to downtown
businesses.
In conclusion, the downtown core is undergoing fundamental change. This parking structure is
crucial to ensuring that we have a thriving arts district, which, in turn, will help keep downtown’s
transformation on track.
Please vote to increase parking rates.
Thank you so much for all you do.
All the best,
Erik Stein and Jacqueline Hildebrand
