Subject:Agenda Item 6A – Parking Rates

I am sending this email in support of the proposed parking rate increase as necessary to ensure timely construction of
the Arts District parking structure.
The garage will benefit Downtown businesses and their customers and help establish a thriving arts district that is
attractive to residents and visitors alike. Having parking rates reflect the true (or truer) cost of providing parking also
helps the City achieve other City goals, including environmental sustainability and encouragement of other modes of
transportation and mobility. It makes sense to have users of the space pay a fair share for the space.
The parking garage will have widespread benefits for the entire community, including supporting Downtown businesses
and cultural institutions such as the SLO REP, SLO Museum of Art, and the Children's Museum, while being a small price
to pay on an individual basis. Further, as visitors make up a large portion of people who pay parking rates, the
parking rate increase is a good way to lessen the burden of financing this public improvement on residents.
Thank you,
Martha Miller
