June 6, 2022,
Dear Mayor Stewart and Council Members,
I am writing to you today to urge your votes in favor of approving plans for the Parking Structure that will serve the Cultural
Arts District and nearby areas of the City of San Luis Obispo. This structure has been in planning for 20 years or
so. When constructed it will serve key cultural aspects of our City: The SLO Repertory Theatre, SLO Museum of Art, the
Children's Museum and the History Museum as well as enhanced access to Mission Plaza. You can be certain that the
construction of this Parking Structure will also significantly benefit multiple businesses in that part of town.
Use of the existing parking structures in San Luis Obispo shows significant increase now that Covid has mostly loosened
its grip on life and this additional capacity is definitely needed.
Yes, there is an associated cost to approving this project in the form of increased parking rates but I think the long-term
benefits to the vitality of our downtown certainly warrants this increase.
I urge a YES vote on this measure.
Thank you,
Lauren
