Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. To the mayor and council members, I am writing to you in support of the proposed rate increases as necessary to ensure timely construction of the Arts District parking structure. This garage is essential to the ability of SLO REP and the SLO Museum of Art to expand their offerings, as well as increasing access to the SLO Children's Museum. I support this increase with a caveat, though. As someone who has commuted to work in SLO from both North and South Counties for nearly twenty years, I would ask that any plan for parking rate increase would factor in complimentary or heavily discounted parking for all downtown employees. While the parking rate may incentivize local folks taking public transit, walking, or cycling to downtown more often, it will also penalize those who, due to the high cost of living in SLO and working hours that extend beyond the current public transit hours, must commute by car to work in SLO. I would also love to see more investment in public transit options for our commuters.
