Use caution when deciding to open attachments, click links, or respond. Dear council members, I was flabbergasted when my friend shared with me that the hourly parking rates are proposed to increase. Visiting downtown has already become so distasteful, between fearful encounters with aggressive loiterers and the difficulty of finding parking! No longer can one safely and conveniently "stop for a quick lunch" in town while running errands. Also, the last parking change eliminated the ability to have dinner and a movie without parking fees. How much more disincentive do locals need? Between increased parking rates, the difficulty of finding parking, and hotel-guest-only views, this is becoming less and less a town for locals but more and more a town for tourists. When my family leaves our home to spend leisure dollars, our choices are Broad to San Luis or Arroyo Grande. South used to be the novelty outing. It is fast becoming de facto. A further four dollar an hour surcharge for a meal or shop browsing really is quite the incentive to head south with our money. If raising fees for parking infractions is appropriate, please at least make sure that all individuals are paying those. If only parkers who try to follow the rules must pay the fines, that is completely unfair. Patty Smith 1
