What can anyone say: TIMING IS EVERYTHING!
While all residents wrestle with the increased cost of such survival staples as food, gas, utilities, water, etc., the new
parking garage seems to focus new costs on nonessential cultural niceties (focused on visitors).
This timing is only justified if you can produce numbers that specifically illustrate that all parking garages are filled on a
regular basis . . . and with the support of the major businesses that count on the availability. Businesses would be
clamoring for the parking if, indeed, their bottom line justified the inflation to customers and staffers.
As a former Council Member (1994-98 & 2010-14), I am well acquainted with the myriad of times that the Nipomo St.
garage was considered. Each time, the Parking Enterprise Fund was adequate to fulfill the costs.
I urge you to consider the timing of these increases and, once again, delay the project until it is financially feasible. With
a projected “recession” on the horizon, these increases are excessive.
The best to all for your service . . . Kathy Smith
